Engulfing Basket Core is a MetaTrader 5 Expert Advisor designed to automate a trading strategy based on confirmed engulfing patterns and weighted basket management.

The officially tested and recommended configuration is EURUSD on the M15 timeframe using a MetaTrader 5 Hedging account.

The EA can technically be attached to other Forex pairs, but EURUSD M15 is the only configuration covered by the published historical benchmark. Other symbols may have significantly different volatility, spreads and market behaviour.

What is a MetaTrader 5 Expert Advisor?

An Expert Advisor, commonly known as an EA, is a software program that runs inside MetaTrader 5 and automatically applies a predefined trading strategy.

An EA can analyse candles, evaluate market conditions, check spreads and margin, calculate trading volumes and open or close positions when all programmed rules are satisfied.

Automation helps remove impulsive decision-making and applies the same rules consistently. It does not eliminate financial risk. Performance is still affected by volatility, leverage, spreads, slippage, commissions, swaps and broker execution quality.

What is an engulfing pattern?

An engulfing pattern is a two-candle price formation used in technical analysis to identify a possible change in the balance between buyers and sellers.

Bullish Engulfing

A Bullish Engulfing occurs when a bullish candle covers the body of the previous bearish candle. The formation may indicate that buying pressure is becoming stronger than selling pressure.

Bearish Engulfing

A Bearish Engulfing is the opposite formation. A bearish candle covers the body of the previous bullish candle and may indicate increasing selling pressure.

An engulfing pattern does not guarantee the beginning of a new trend. Engulfing Basket Core therefore combines the signal with trading-permission checks, spread controls, margin protection, broker volume validation and basket-management rules.

How Engulfing Basket Core works

The Expert Advisor analyses completed M15 candles. It does not open a position while the potential signal candle is still forming. The candle must close before the pattern can be confirmed.

When a valid signal is detected, the EA follows a structured operating process:

  1. checks whether automated trading is allowed;
  2. verifies that the account uses Hedging mode;
  3. checks symbol prices and trading availability;
  4. evaluates spread, free margin and margin level;
  5. validates broker minimum volume, maximum volume and volume step;
  6. opens the first position in the direction of the signal;
  7. continuously monitors the combined basket result;
  8. considers additional entries only at predefined price distances;
  9. starts closing positions when internal profit or recovery conditions are met.

The EA does not open all five positions at the same time. The first entry is triggered by the engulfing signal. Additional entries are considered only if the market moves against the basket and reaches the predefined distances.

Every additional entry remains subject to margin, spread and broker-volume checks.

Independent LONG and SHORT basket management

Engulfing Basket Core manages bullish and bearish positions independently.

A LONG basket and a SHORT basket can therefore coexist on the same symbol without being merged into one net position.

This structure requires a MetaTrader 5 Hedging account. Netting accounts combine trades on the same symbol into a single net position and are not compatible with the original strategy logic.

Up to five weighted entries per direction

The strategy uses a predefined sequence of up to five entries for each direction.

On the 10,000 USD reference operating capital, the Standard x1 profile uses the following theoretical volumes:

Entry Standard x1 volume Cumulative distance
1st entry 0.01 lots Initial entry
2nd entry 0.22 lots 55 pips
3rd entry 0.87 lots 100 pips
4th entry 0.90 lots 115 pips
5th entry 0.78 lots 145 pips

The maximum theoretical Standard x1 basket exposure is 2.78 lots per direction on the reference operating capital.

These volumes are not necessarily applied in the same way on accounts with lower equity. The sizing system also considers available equity and broker trading specifications.

Standard x1 and Growth x1.5

The commercial version includes two risk profiles:

  • Standard x1: the default profile and the more conservative starting configuration;
  • Growth x1.5: a higher-exposure profile used for the main historical benchmark.

Growth x1.5 increases both potential returns and potential losses. The fact that it produced the published benchmark does not mean that it is suitable for every trader or account.

Official EURUSD M15 historical benchmark

The complete commercial-version benchmark was performed using the following configuration:

  • symbol: EURUSD;
  • timeframe: M15;
  • period: January 1, 2018 to July 1, 2026;
  • initial deposit: 10,000 USD;
  • leverage: 1:100;
  • modelling: Every tick based on real ticks;
  • history quality: 99%;
  • Capital Sizing: Fixed Operating Capital;
  • Operating Capital: 10,000 USD;
  • Risk Profile: Growth x1.5.
Metric Result
Total net profit 18,070.01 USD
Final balance 28,070.01 USD
Profit Factor 1.89
Recovery Factor 4.95
Expected Payoff 3.59 USD
Sharpe Ratio 1.02
Maximum balance drawdown 606.80 USD / 2.79%
Maximum relative equity drawdown 26.24%
Minimum margin level 444.13%
Total trades 5,040
Profitable trades 75.34%

No stop-out occurred during the tested period.

The most important risk metric to consider alongside profit is the 26.24% maximum relative equity drawdown. A high percentage of profitable closed trades does not eliminate the risk of periods in which the basket remains temporarily negative.

These results were produced by the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester and do not guarantee future performance.

Is 10,000 USD the minimum deposit?

No. The 10,000 USD amount is the capital used for the official benchmark. It is not a guaranteed or mandatory minimum deposit.

In Fixed Operating Capital mode, if account equity is lower than the selected operating capital, the EA caps position sizing to the equity available when it starts.

Small accounts are affected by an important technical constraint: the broker minimum lot. If the proportional volume is lower than 0.01 lots, the broker may still require a 0.01-lot position. Risk therefore does not always scale perfectly on lower-equity accounts.

For this reason, 500 USD, 1,000 USD or any other amount is not advertised as a guaranteed safe minimum.

Fixed Operating Capital and Equity at Startup Compounding

Fixed Operating Capital

This is the default mode and the one used for the official benchmark. The user selects a reference operating capital and volumes remain based on that reference without continuous intra-session compounding.

Equity at Startup Compounding

This is an advanced mode. It uses the equity available when the EA starts and recalculates volumes only after the Expert Advisor is restarted.

If the account has grown, a later restart may produce larger volumes. This can increase both potential profit and potential losses.

Does Engulfing Basket Core use a Stop Loss?

The EA does not place a traditional fixed Stop Loss on every individual position.

Positions are managed using the combined basket result and internal profit and recovery logic.

This approach allows multiple entries to be treated as a single structure, but floating drawdown can become significant during prolonged trends, market gaps, abnormal spreads or low-liquidity conditions.

Traders who require a strictly predetermined maximum loss through a fixed Stop Loss should carefully assess whether this risk model is appropriate for them.

Can the EA be used on other Forex pairs?

The code can technically operate on other symbols and normalises entry distances for common 4-digit, 5-digit and JPY-style Forex pricing.

However, EURUSD M15 remains the only officially validated configuration.

Using the EA on GBPUSD, USDJPY, AUDUSD, XAUUSD or another instrument without a separate backtest means using a configuration not covered by the published benchmark.

How to test the EA before live trading

Before using the Expert Advisor on a live account, it is advisable to:

  1. install the product in MetaTrader 5;
  2. open the Strategy Tester;
  3. select EURUSD and the M15 timeframe;
  4. use real-tick modelling;
  5. configure deposit, leverage, commissions and spreads according to your broker;
  6. review balance, equity, drawdown and minimum margin level;
  7. run the EA on a demo account;
  8. consider starting with the Standard x1 profile.

A historical result produced with one broker is not automatically reproduced on every other trading account.

No. Published results are historical backtests and do not guarantee future performance.

What is the minimum deposit?

No guaranteed minimum deposit is claimed. The official benchmark was performed with 10,000 USD.

Can the EA start with lower equity?

The EA can initialise with lower equity when broker margin and volume requirements allow it. The minimum lot may cause disproportionate exposure on smaller accounts.

What is the default risk profile?

The default profile is Standard x1. The main historical benchmark used Growth x1.5.

Does it work on MetaTrader 4?

No. The product was developed for MetaTrader 5.

Does it work on a Netting account?

No. Independent LONG and SHORT basket management requires a Hedging account.

Can it be used on a cent account?

Cent-account compatibility has not been officially validated and is not guaranteed.

Must MetaTrader remain online?

Yes. The EA must remain active to analyse signals and manage positions. A MetaTrader-compatible VPS can be used for continuous operation.

Final considerations

Engulfing Basket Core was built around a defined strategy, a locked entry profile and an extended historical benchmark covering 2018 to 2026.

The test results are relevant, but they must be assessed together with drawdown and the specific risk-management model. The EA uses weighted entries, does not place a traditional fixed Stop Loss and may experience significant floating drawdown.

The correct way to evaluate an Expert Advisor is not to focus only on historical profit. Traders should also understand whether the strategy logic, operating capital, drawdown and basket behaviour are compatible with their own risk tolerance.
